Our goal was to connect the requirements outlined in the competition brief with a modern and minimalist design approach. It was not an easy task, and we came up with a huge number of ideas. We had not seen so many logo concepts gathered in one place for a long time. In the end, we chose a musical note as the central symbol. It represents music, which naturally goes hand in hand with cultural life and artistic expression. At the same time, the note serves as a reference to Josef Muzika, a violin virtuoso from Nová Paka. The final step was then to incorporate this symbol into the logo itself.
We spent a lot of time considering whether the logo should feature the full name “MKS Nová Paka”, only the abbreviation “MKS”, or no name at all. Since the cultural center had been presenting itself under the abbreviation MKS for many years (since 2004), we decided to preserve that tradition.
Another challenge was the color palette. The colors of the Nová Paka coat of arms are quite vivid, so we softened them slightly to ensure that the overall impression of the colored logo would not be overly extravagant. Of course, the logo also works perfectly in a black-and-white version.
And that is exactly how our logo for MKS Nová Paka came to life and was submitted to the competition.
As part of our proposal, we also prepared various logo applications, including examples on clothing, Instagram profile, website, and printed materials.
Although we did not finish in first place, the project provided valuable experience and an opportunity to prepare a professional submission for a competition of this kind. We already consider it a success that we made it to the shortlist. At the same time, we gained insights into what we can improve next time. Experiences like these are always worth having!
